UK Scouts in Groups, Units, Districts, Counties/ Area will join in this celebration on the same day as 28 million Scouts from around the world, and we will have the biggest gathering that has ever happened in the World of young people.
In addition to the local celebrations, we will have two landmark international activities here in the UK;
- At Hylands Park, Chelmsford, 40,000 Scouts attending the WSJ will collectively renew their Promise together in the main arena.
- At Brownsea Island, two representatives from every single NSO in the world where Scouting exists, will gather on the island where Scouting began and renew their promise, stood on the spot that those young people stood 100 years ago to the day.
The underlying theme for the UK Scouting's Sunrise ceremonies will be ‘Reflect, Renew, Respond’ and the Factsheet gives thoughts and ideas for the programme built around this theme. View some local Scouting's Sunrise plans.
Aims & Objectives
To demonstrate the solidarity of Scouting as the largest Peace Movement in the world, and to make a clear statement to the World along with the adult members about the young people’s commitment to the values of Scouting.
The activity should also contribute in conjunction with other 2007 Events and Activities that are planned throughout the year to be instrumental in our local and national agenda for ‘Growth Recognition and Celebration’.
