2007 is an amazing recruitment opportunity for Scouting. More young people will want to get involved and we will need more adults than ever to join the adventure.
The Centenary offers us the ideal opportunity to recruit large numbers of both adults and young people. This badge is designed to be a catalyst for this and the good news is that anyone can gain it. Adult volunteers are encouraged to bring an adult friend either to a one off event, or to help with one evening's programme or activity. Remember we need to attract adult help as well as more young people in Scouting!
'The important thing to remember is this', says Cat Dicker of the 2007 UK Events Team, 'Our Centenary is a celebration not just for Scouting, but for the whole community.' All of the 2007 events are opportunities to give people their first taste of Scouting. 'Whether it's a Centenary Camp, the Festival of Scouting or a Sunrise Festival, if every Scout invited someone along, an additional half million people will be able to get involved.'
It sounds obvious, but when you 'Bring a Friend', make sure there is something for them to do. Lay on activities for young people to try - seeing is good, but doing is better! If it is an adult, do they have a skill or talent they can share that will enhance the experience? Do not try and recruit the person on the spot; Bring a Friend is more like an invitation to a party - there should be no strings attached, but do make the effort to follow up afterwards.
To introduce new adults and young people to the adventure of Scouting and grow the Movement.
Every Member of the Movement is encouraged to 'Bring a Friend' during 2007.
