A 200 page deluxe world history of Scouting is due to be published in October 2006 by Hamlyn. Lavishly illustrated, it will be ahardback coffee table style publication of approximately 70,000 words.
The book follows the story of the Founder from his childhood and early years, through his army career, the siege of Mafeking to the first experimental camp on Brownsea Island. It takes up the story of the Movement as it begins its rapid expansion around the world - its part in the two World Wars right up to its work in the present day.
Drawing extensively on previously unseen images, documents and artifacts from The Scout Association's archive it will be available in all major bookshops. The book will be available through Scout Shops (www.scouts.org.uk/shop) from 1 October 2006. You can also order your pre-order copy at this year's Gilwell Reunion.
There will be more information on the book and where to buy it in the next issue of Scouting.
