Centenary People

Gemma, ScotlandBeing part of Scouting has given me opportunities to experience a variety of adventures and try countless new things. I have travelled abroad and have met Scouts from around the world. The next 100 years of Scouting? I hope we are going to see Scouting introduced into every country of the world, so that everyone can be part of the adventure.
Gemma, Scotland

Olga, RussiaThe next hundred years is about the continuation of a great Movement. Scouts around the world encourage each other to make the world better. It’s great that Scouting exists now.

Erkki, FinlandI hope that our traditions will continue to be important. Scouting has always been about being a peacemaker and part of a peace movement. This is important now and will be even more important in the future.
Erkki, Finland

Singapore Scout Emblem On 10 February, we kicked off the year with the National Scoutcraft and Pioneering Competition which saw 3,500 Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts participating in 18 different events. On Founder's Day, together with the Singapore Scout Guild, the Association organised the World Scout Day Dinner graced by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, who unveiled the new Scout emblem.

On 10 March, we participated in the APR Rover Peace Baton where Singapore received the baton from Indonesia and passed it on to Malaysia. Next month, from 25 to 29 May, we will hold our own Centenary Scout Camp at the Sarimbun Scout Camp. So far we have confirmed that Scouts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong will be joining us. Girl Guides Singapore will also be participating.

Eric Lam at Gilwell Park On 1 August we will hold our Scouting Sunrise Ceremony The World Scout Jamboree will be a great time to catch up with old friends - quite a number of friends I've acquainted during the 12th World Scout Moot in Taiwan will also be attending this Jamboree. There are also the new friends from the recent Head of Contingent meeting. I am looking forward to see them all again. I am also excited to the opportunity to meet many more people from all over the world! Going back to the UK for the WSJ will be special to me for two reasons. I spent three years in Manchester doing my basic degree course, so the UK is quite a familiar place. I hope to re-visit some of the beautiful places in Britain I've been before and probably my alma mater, if there's an opportunity. The other reason is the significance of this World Scout Jamboree. Celebrating the Centenary where Scouting began is an exciting thought.
Eric Lam, Singapore

Ramu and Wu Yuet Seung outside the London EyeI'm here to celebrate Founder's Day at the London Eye with Scouts from many different countries. This is my first trip to the UK, but I feel right at home - part of a worldwide Scouting family. In Hong Kong, Scouting is working with young prisoners, using the Scout Method, the Law and Promise to restore their self-confidence. Scouting helped me focus on the positive things in life, and that’s what I try and share with others'
Wu Yuet Seung, Hong Kong

Our Centenary is about helping create a better world. Last year there was a group of Scouts in Romania who were about to set off for a regional camp. They heard about the terrible flooding that was going on in a different part of the country and decided to go there instead. They used the money, food and shelter that was supposed to be for the camp and gave it all to the people who had lost their homes. They ended up staying for two weeks, saving books from the village library, helping get food in and doing whatever they could.
