Perfect Centenary PR

Scouting's Centenary is about Growth, Recognition and Celebration; here's how you can use 2007 to grow the Movement, gain increased recognition for Scouting and help ensure everyone is part of the celebration.

Scouting is a vibrant and youthful organisation and part of your role is to encourage more young people and adults to experience what we offer. To help achieve this, three key components need to be in place:

  • Media Development Managers (MDMs) in every County/Area (and many Districts), whose media contacts get us coverage
  • Young Spokespeople (YSP) to talk passionately about Scouting.
  • News stories that demonstrate our Everyday Adventure branding and our values.

This is the year to 'be prepared' - to appoint MDMs, train Young Spokespeople, and identify potential news stories. UK staff will provide training during 2006 and 2007 and news stories that you can customise to complement your local stories around Centenary Camps, Scouting's Sunrise, and Everyday Adventure.

Where to begin

Your MDM will be able to contact the local media to get your Centenary activities noticed. If you don't know who your MDM is, then contact your County/Area Commissioner. If you still can't find a local MDM visit www.scoutbase.org.uk/hq/ pr/s4s.htm for information on how to put together a press release yourself.

www.scouting2007.org.uk

This is the best place to get information on everything that is happening in the UK during 2007. The website is in calendar format, allowing you to see how the events you would like to get involved in fit into the year. For most national events there will be the option to apply online, however for local events the best person to speak to would be your Agent 2:007.

Using your Agent 200:7

Every County/Area should have an appointed Agent 2:007 who will have the latest information on all nationally led and other events happening in your County/Area.

Factsheets

These are another great source of information for events and activities in 2007, and are released once an event has been planned. These can be found in the factsheet section of www.scouts.org.uk/scoutbase under 2007 products, or ordered through the Scout Information Centre by telephoning 0845 300 1818.
