- Harwich (The dredged channel)
- The Open Sea, as classified by the MCA, seawards from a line drawn ½ mile from the High Water mark
- Winter Seawards from a line extending across the Estuary, from Colne Point to Whitstable
- Summer Seawards from aline extending across the Estuary from Clacton Pier to Reculvers

- Vessels making a passage from one B 3 area, to another, may cross shipping lanes classed as A Waters. Provided that :
- The person in charge holds a B 3 Tidal Authorisation.
- No commercial vessels are in the vicinity.
- The passage is at right angles to the shipping lane.
- Is not more than ½ mile and is necessary to reach B1, 2, or 3 Waters
