  • Any Rivers, Lakes or Reservoirs not affected by tidal flow

Tidal

  • The tidal parts of any Essex Rivers
  • The River Thames and the Coastal waters off the Essex shore inside a line drawn from ½ mile from High Water as shown on an Admiralty Chart, and excluding Class A Waters
B2

Tidal

  • The River Thames and the Coastal waters off the Essex shore from the B1 (Tidal) limit to 1 mile from High Water and excluding Class A Waters
B3

Tidal

  • All other waters (Not classified 'A' or designated the 'Open Sea' by the Marine Coastguard Agency)
A
  • The River Thames (The main buoyed shipping fairway)
  • Harwich (The dredged channel)
  • The Open Sea, as classified by the MCA, seawards from a line drawn ½ mile from the High Water mark
  • Winter Seawards from a line extending across the Estuary, from Colne Point to Whitstable
  • Summer Seawards from aline extending across the Estuary from Clacton Pier to Reculvers
Notes
  • Vessels making a passage from one B 3 area, to another, may cross shipping lanes classed as A Waters. Provided that :
  • The person in charge holds a B 3 Tidal Authorisation.
  • No commercial vessels are in the vicinity.
  • The passage is at right angles to the shipping lane.
  • Is not more than ½ mile and is necessary to reach B1, 2, or 3 Waters
