  • Hawley Lake - The area so classified is known as 'The Topper Pool', and is located to the North East of the Canoe shed. This area will be bounded by a line drawn from the Club House to the large Island and then from the large Island to the nearest point of
    the Northerly shore (in the beach area). In the event that the wind is between West and North and greater than force 2, then this will be classified as B1. This area will be indicated on a map posted in or near the canoe shed. The remainder of the lake is classified as B1.

Tidal

  • Rivers Beaulieu and Hamble
  • Langstone Harbour (North of the Ferry)
  • Chichester Harbour (North of a line from Black Point to Longmere Point)
  • Portsmouth Harbour, Haslar and Workhouse Lakes
  • Portsmouth Harbour north of a line drawn from the Shell Pier on the Gosport side through the south cardinal posts marking the approach to the Continental Ferry Port. Water up to 100m south of this line may also be considered B1T for vessels taking passage to and from Whale Island and Rotten Row Lake.
  • West and East Solent (Lymington River except Salterns Sailing Club Lake, Beaulieu River, Keyhaven River and adjacent creeks)
  • Southampton Water (the area between the buoyed channel and the shore)
  • Southampton Water (the River Itchen north of Itchen Bridge, River Hamble and River Test west of buoy. The area of the River Itchen from Weston Jetty to Itchen Bridge which lies to the east of the line of Beacons)
B2

Tidal

  • East and West Solent, outside the main shipping channels, between the lines from Hurst Point to Sconce Point to Selsey. The shipping channels may be considered B2T waters for vessels crossing with caution heading as near as practicable at right angles to the direction of the marked channel.
  • Chichester Harbour (North of a line from East Head to Black Point and east of a line from Black Point to Longmere Point)
  • Langstone Harbour (South of the Ferry)
  • Portsmouth Harbour south of a line drawn from the Shell Pier on the Gosport side through the south cardinal posts marking the approach to the Continental Ferry Port.
  • Southampton Water (inside the buoyed channel but within the dredged deep water channel only if crossing at right angles with alertness and caution)

Tidal

  • Christchurch Bay (the remainder of area enclosed by lines Hurst Point to Sconce Point and Needles Light to Handfast Point unless otherwise classified)
  • East and West Solent (Buoyed shipping channels)
  • Southampton Water (dredged deep water channels)
  • Chichester Harbour (South of a line from East Head to Black Point)
  • Portsmouth Harbour (South of a line from the Semaphore Tower to the Oil Fuel Jetty)
A
  • Christchurch Bay (the area south of the line Needles Point to Handfast Point)
  • Coastline (an area south of a line from Warner buoy to Selsey Bill)
Notes
  • It should be remembered that no licence fee is payable on the Basingstoke canal in respect of canoes carrying the Scout Identification sticker. Should you feel that any waters you use, or are planning to use, fall within the revised classification for class C, then please contact your area Water Activities Adviser who will discus it with you and
    if necessary review the classification.
