Project Information

In 2005 the Government launched an initiative, inviting organisations to apply for funding to communicate the issue of climate change. This £6m initiative, the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF), was led by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), in partnership with other government funded agencies.

The aim of CCF is to change public attitude and increase awareness of climate change issues. The fund provides financial support for projects that communicate and spread the message about climate change.

Be prepared for the future

The Scout Association submitted a proposal to the fund for a 2 year project and was successfully awarded a grant because of their unique position to access a large audience across a national network. The aim of the ‘Be Prepared for the Future’ project is to encourage members of the Scout Association, and those who come into contact with it, to spread the climate change message across the country, engaging with homeowners, businesses and communities at a local level. In addition to this website, the fund has enabled us to produce, in partnership with Impetus Consulting, the following resources, designed to help leaders inspire and motivate their group to take action.

  • Activities and ideas available via ‘Programmes On-Line’ to assist leaders to run educational and exciting sessions and projects focussing on climate change.
  • Quarterly themed activity ideas and campaigns, with resources.
  • The Green Footprint Award, which encourages Groups and Sections to complete a series of activities that raise their awareness about Climate Change and tell others in their local area
