What are Committee Members?

John – Group Treasurer

“I became a Cub when I was evacuated to Torquay at the beginning of the Second World War!  68 years later, albeit with a few gaps, I am Group Treasurer for my local Scout Group.

I certainly feel that Scouting has given me independence of thought and I have met many long-standing friends through the Movement. My job as Treasurer only involves a couple of hours of work a week but it keeps my mind active and allows me to see the young people better themselves rather than hanging around on the street.”

Administrator
If you are organised, efficient and are not necessarily interested in working directly with young people, there are a number of administrative opportunities open to adults. Records need to be maintained, the annual census completed, correspondence replied to and communication between Sections and Groups maintained. Whatever you choose to do, you will be contributing to the effective running of Scouting in your area.

Committee Member
Parents place a huge amount of trust in us; because we have a duty to protect the young people in our care we make sure that Scouting is safe as well as enjoyable. We also have a duty to ensure that large financial resources and property are administered properly. It is therefore essential that we have responsible individuals who can help us maintain our high standards.
