What are Parent Helpers?

Jeanette – Parent Helper

“I met my husband when I was involved on the service crew at a camp and we have both been involved in Scouting ever since. Both my son and daughter are in Scouts.

I help out at my daughter’s Beaver Colony as I think it is important to be involved in what your children are doing. You also meet lots of people from around the world who, in many cases, become good friends.

Scouting is great for young people as they learn to become respectful, kind caring adults, have fun without being irresponsible and make new friends. My daughter has speech problems and since she joined Beavers her social skills have grown and she has become more confident.

Go along and help out – no matter how much time you can give, you really will make a difference.”

Scouting simply would not exist without the skills and enthusiasm of thousands of adult helpers. Whether you can spare two hours a week or a day a month, we need instructors, treasurers, administrators and volunteer managers and many others who share our aim of making life better for young people. You don’t need to know everything about Scouting - we’ll provide full training, induction and ongoing support. What matters is that you are committed, have a sense of humour and a huge amount of common sense.
