Aston Wood reports on some recent successes and ensures we’re all ready for this year’s Gilwell 24 and the Queen’s Scout Reception

Winter Camp and Gilwell 24

This year’s Winter Camp was a great success with more people attending than ever before. It was the first Centenary event to be held at Gilwell and there’s more to follow, including Gilwell 24. Again we are expecting record numbers of Explorer Scouts to join in the 24 hours of activity. For more information visit www.gilwell24.info – be quick, as spaces are filling up fast!

Energised

Energise07 – Explorer Scouting Towards 2012, an event for County/Area level Explorer Scout supporters (Assistant County/Area Commissioners for Explorers and the like), took place just a few weeks ago. Energise07 brought together people from all walks of Explorer Scouting, so we could collectively look at how we can continue to deliver better Explorer Scouting. It has been a good first five years for the Section, so well done! Energise continues (it wasn’t just a weekend in March) with great initiatives for all. Check out www.scouts.org.uk/energise to see what this means for you.

Queen’s Scout Award

In this issue, we are going to look at the Queen’s Scout Award. We hear from some Explorer Scouts who attended the Queen’s Scout Reception last year at Tate Modern, and we take a look at how Explorers can work towards achieving the Movement’s top award. This will be the first of five articles looking in-depth at the Queen’s Scout Award. Janet (who administers the Queen’s Scout Award at Gilwell) has been inundated since October last year. She now receives an average
of 15 certificate request forms a week. We anticipate
that many people are looking to celebrate their achievements in the Centenary year. With the success of last year’s Queen’s Scout Reception, we have taken measures to ensure more people can attend. More information can be found at www.scouts.org.uk/qsr
