April/May is set to be yet another two months jam-packed with activities, writes Lee Allwood
Hello and welcome to the April/May edition of Network. April is a special month in the Scouting calendar, as it is the time when hundreds of Network members descend on Windsor Castle to receive Scouting’s highest award. What am I talking about? The Queen’s Scout Award, of course! In recognition of this, we look at how a number of you achieved your award, and William Palmer explains the opportunities his Queen’s Scout Award has given him through the Queen’s Scout Working Party.
Centenary continues apace
The Centenary year continues apace and I hope that everyone out there is doing something extra special to mark this celebration. For ideas and help on making 2007 great, check out the Join-in-Centenary packs at www.scouts.org.uk/jic/network. Your Network Commissioner should also have a copy. This is a must-have resource for the year!
For April and May, the Join-in-Centenary pack sets out the third and fourth events in the Network Decathlon – a year-long adventure for the Network Section. April’s event is an international experience of some sort. If you haven’t organised an expedition, then why not bring international Scouting to your doorstep? International visits, cooking, fancy dress and games can all put that global spin on things.
Pitch off
May’s event is ‘pitch a tent Network style!’ This involves pitching a tent in an unusual place guaranteed to get publicity. Make sure you have plenty of information to hand out when people ask, ‘What on earth are you doing?’ So far, we have Networks planning to pitch their tents in the middle of a football pitch, on a beach and on a roundabout! See if you can think of somewhere more exciting.
As usual, send your photos and stories about all these things to
