Welcome to the June/July 2006 issue of Scouting!

The World Cup, the Tour de France, Wimbledon. there's a whole summer packed full of sport and activity ahead of us, but we don't have to be mere spectators. There's plenty of opportunity for us to get up off our sofas and get involved too. After all, that's what Scouting is all about - getting out there and getting active!

This issue of Scouting is full of ideas to get your pulse racing, including Chris Shaw's article on air activities, 'Up, Up And Away' and Hilary Galloway's piece on cycling, 'Trail Blazers'. It's important that we provide young people with opportunities for active play, as we see in our report about rising obesity amongst the UK's young. If you're not too worn out by the time you reach the back cover, don't forget that the next few months also brings us Sport Relief on Saturday 15 July (www.sportrelief.com), Gilwell 24 for Explorers on Saturday 9 July (www.gilwell24.info), the Fundays at Gilwell for Beavers and Cubs on Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June (www.fundays.org.uk), and the National Conference ('2007: The Launch') open to all Adult Members on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September at Warwick University (www.scouts.org.uk/nationalconference). That should keep you all busy until your next edition of Scouting, which will be zooming towards you full of new ideas on 1 August.

Yours in Scouting
