Downe
Situated in the village of Downe, the home of Charles Darwin, the Centre is a beautiful wooded 86-acre estate, only 16 miles from the centre of London.
As the largest co-educational youth organisation in the United Kingdom, we are ideally placed to offer young people, a safe, enjoyable Centre with a range of activities to help provide the best possible experience possible. At Downe, we have been offering safe activity experiences to young people from all walks of life for over 70 years.
With an excellent range of facilities we welcome Scouts and Guides, school and study groups, youth organisations and charities for day visits or residential stays under canvas or in our purpose built indoor accommodation buildings.
Activities
We have a range of activities for all ages including climbing and abseiling, archery, grass sleds, orienteering and an outdoor swimming pool. This year we will be introducing a Zip-Wire, Aerial Trek Course and our ‘G8’ programme. This specially designed 2 hour programme of games and tasks raises awareness and understanding of issues that affect us all as ‘global citizens’ from fair trade to poverty.
Facilities and Services
Enclosed you will find information on the range of facilities and services that we can offer you and your group. As Centre Manager, I live on site and am happy to discuss your requirements with you and tailor the on-site facilities to suit your particular event. In addition to our wide range of on-site activities on offer, our fantastic location means that there are also plenty of activities in the surrounding area. These range from a tour of Down House, home of Charles Darwin and an underground experience at Chislehurst Caves.
