Volunteer Swimming Pool Engineer (1 post vacant)
Length of contract: 1 year
Start date: 1/9/06
You will be responsible to the Programme manager and as key volunteer staff you will provide Gilwell with its core programme team during the busiest part of the year. You will be trained as an instructor and supervisor of all activity programmes that we offer to our guests. We will also provide national governing qualifications where they are required.
You will also be responsible for the maintenance of the swimming pool, which will include water checks, undertaking repairs and informing the Programme Manager of any issues that arise
Volunteer Campsite Ranger (1 post vacant)
Length of contract: 1 year
Start date 1/9/06
This person is responsible to the Centre assistant and will be part of the Facilities team. The main duties will be ensuring that all guest areas are clean, tidy and in suitable repair. This will include, building inspections, refuse collection, quartermaster of the camping equipment store etc. You will also receive training in the provision of activity programmes for guests.
Volunteer Campsite Ranger (Environment) (1 post vacant)
Length of contract: 1 year

This person is responsible to the Centre Assistant and will be part of the Facilities Team. You will have specific responsibilities for the maintenance and upkeep of the centres camping areas, recycling areas, woodlands and assist in the implementation of the site’s management plan. Other duties will be ensuring that all guest areas are clean, tidy and in suitable repair. This will include, building inspections and refuse collection. You will also receive training in the provision of activity programmes for guests.
Volunteer Programme Equipment Engineer (1 post vacant)
Length of contract: 1 year
Start date: 1/9/06
You will be responsible to the Programme manager as key volunteer staff and will provide Gilwell with its core programme team during the busiest part of the year. You will be trained as an instructor and supervisor of all activity programmes that we offer to our guests. We will also provide national governing qualifications where they are required.
You will also be responsible for the maintenance of the activity programme areas including the swimming pool, archery range, shooting range, pioneering area, climbing and crate stacking areas. You will have specific responsibility for the control of the activity stores and the upkeep and recording of maintenance checks on the equipment.
You will also be trained in all areas of site operation

Activity Centre Volunteer Instructor (2 posts vacant)
Responsible to: Assistant Manager
Length of contract: 26 weeks minimum starting from March 31 2006.
Main duties:
- Assist in the supervision and instruction of the Centre’s programme activities to the agreed level of competence.
- To assist in the delivery of schools programmes.
- Assist the Centres Instructor with the maintenance and inspection of programme equipment, this will include the logging of faults and reporting to the relevant Duty Manager.
- Assist in the day to day management of the centre .
- When required to staff the Centre’s shop.
- Assist in delivery of the Centre’s large events.
- Assist in the maintenance of the facilities and programme areas.
- Any other duties as required.
The scheme requires that participants volunteer for a minimum of six months. During this period you will have the opportunity to undertake qualifications in the centre's programme activities and will have specific responsibilities for certain areas of the centre.
What to expect
Typical tasks include supervising programme activities, assisting customers, cleaning toilets, refuse collection, staffing the centre’s reception and shops. The hours can sometimes be long, but it’s great fun and very rewarding. You get a day off each week and we also hold a weekly staff social to help you unwind!
