The permanent staff at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre is supported by a large group of volunteers who undertake a wide range of activities to ensure the ongoing successful operation of Youlbury.
The Service Team has recently been renamed as the Youlbury Scout Activity Centre Fellowship.
The change was made, primarily to ensure that all members of the Service Team are also members of the Association, and as such are covered by Insurance. The Fellowship exists to support the Activity Centre in helping young people get the most out of their time with us.
How much time you can give is up to you, we can make use of anything from a couple of hours to a week or more! There is always a vast array of tasks and activities to be undertaken and training is given where required.
Within the team of volunteers we have a very important section – our ‘Junior Team’. Made up of 14-18 year olds, the range of activities they undertake is almost identical to that of the ‘Senior Team’ with the exception of instructing on those activities that require a formal qualification / authorisation; however the Junior Team are trained to assist with these activities.
In addition to the Fellowship / Service Team our centre is supported by Explorer Scout Units, Network Members and other Scout Fellowships, and these groups undertake specific projects or tasks. These may range from an environmental weekend to supporting a large event.

What do I get out of it?
- The satisfaction of helping young people get the most out of their time with us.
- A chance to meet and socialise with other like-minded people from all over the UK and the world.
- The opportunity to attend a number of social occasions organised by the Fellowship.

Service Team members stay in the Service Team building on-site and work with the Camp Site Manager, Camp Site Coordinator and Team Leader to provide a safe, adventurous and fun time for the young people and leaders who visit us

‘Scouting is about giving young people experiences they wouldn’t otherwise get.’ – Ian, Service Team member
‘There’s something very special about Scouting. You know it when you see it – whether it’s a beaming Cub Scout who has just completed their first abseil or relaxing with friends after a long day of activities. I can’t describe it really – it’s just brilliant’ – Jill, Senior Team member |
