Should 16-years-olds be able to vote?
At the age of 16 you're considered responsible enough to get married, have sex and join the army, but you can’t vote in an election. Aged 18 or under? Then The Scout Association wants to know what you think about lowering the voting age from 18 to 16.
The Scout Association has been approached by The Youth Citizenship Commission, part of the government’s Ministry of Justice, to ask you to fill in a short survey about your thoughts on lowering the voting age.
The commission has been tasked with finding out what you think regarding a range of youth citizenship issues, including examining what citizenship means to young people, how to increase young people’s participation in politics, volunteering and community engagement, and whether the voting age should be lowered to 16.
Citizenship is central to being a Scout. Scouting encourages us to engage with the local and wider community, whether through taking part in activities that raise money for local organisations or taking part in community projects abroad.
This is a great opportunity for you to get your voice heard. So please fill out the survey and ask your friends to as well.
