Seven elevens start Centenary year with their Scout Promise
Central Windsor Scouts celebrated the start of the Centenary by welcoming seven young people as new members of their Scout Troop, based in Green Lane, Windsor. At the stroke of midnight, five girls and two boys – all eleven years old - each made their Scout Promise and became the first Scouts in the country to be invested in 2007, the hundredth year of the Scout Movement.
After their investiture ceremony, the new members joined the rest of the Troop for a party and sleepover. In the morning, they cooked up a full English breakfast and played ball games in a nearby park. Will said, 'It was a brilliant investiture', Katie thought it was a good experience and Hannah said it was exciting to play so many games and stay up until 3:30 in the morning!
The Scout Troop has an exciting programme for 2007 which includes Splashdown, a District celebration at Windsor Leisure Centre on 3 March. While many of the Scouts will be away on summer camp in the last week of July, Nick Hyett (Senior Patrol Leader) will attend the 21st World Scout Jamboree to join 40,000 other Scouts from 216 countries for 12 days of adventure, challenge and international friendship.
