London Assembly celebrates 100 years of Scouting
The contribution of Scouting to London's youth and voluntary sectors was marked recently with a special reception at City Hall.
The London Assembly hosted the event, which was attended by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent. Representatives from Scouting included Chief Scout Peter Duncan, along with all six London County Commissioners.
Brian Coleman, Chairman of the London Assembly said: ‘This event was an opportunity to show our appreciation for the huge contribution Scouts make to London’s voluntary and youth sectors.
‘For 100 years they have conducted extensive voluntary work, and provided education, skills and enjoyment to thousands of young Londoners, instilling in them values that will shape them throughout their lives.’
Chief Scout Peter Duncan said ‘Scouting helps young people develop into future citizens through adventure, international friendship, and opportunities to change the world for good.
‘I would like to thank the London Assembly for recognising the efforts of the thousands of volunteers who make this possible.’
A Gallantry Award presentation was also held at the event. HRH The Duke of Kent presented four Awards to three Explorer Scouts and a Scout Leader for their bravery in rescuing two boys whose canoe had capsized.
