Cub Scout's Centenary cycling adventure
When Oliver, a Cub Scout with 2nd Bramcote Panthers Pack, decided he wanted to complete his Silver Chief Scout’s Award, he decided to do something special to celebrate Scouting’s Centenary as well.
Marie Shipman, Oliver's Akela, takes us through the story of his adventure:
‘Oliver has always been the 'model' Cub - completing many activity badges during his time with 2nd Bramcote Panthers as well as taking part in every activity he could possibly attend - he's clocked up 13 nights away with us!
‘He decided that he wanted to complete his Silver Chief ScoutsAward a long time ago, and spoke with his parents (his mum, Fiona, is our Pack Assistant) about what he could do. The idea of cycling 100 miles to celebrate 100 years of Scouting came from this, and he checked with me that it would be OK for the award.
‘Helped by his Dad, Andrew, they covered the 100 miles over 4 different cycle rides, in Derbyshire. Sometimes the cycling was tough, but Oliver never gave in! They have photographic evidence of each ride, it's all really well documented in his folder.
‘I happened to be on the phone to his mum when he got home from the last ride, he was absolutely delighted that he's completed it, but still wasn't sure if he'd done enough to complete the award. Modest as ever!’
Congratulations to Oliver, who was presented with his award at a family camp a couple of weeks ago.
