KidsOutdoors: not just for kids
One of the key aims of KidsOutdoors is to raise awareness among parents about the benefits of getting young people outdoors. An active lifestyle will make them feel better about themselves and better about the future. On the KidsOutdoors site parents can:
- find activity ideas and information at kidsoutdoors.com
- post stories, images and videos from their family adventures
- get involved in local KidsOutdoors events.
KidsOutdoors: benefiting young people
Our campaign is led by young people. It challenges kids to break the routine of watching TV or playing computer games and experience the freedom of the outdoors - ideally through an organisation like Scouting.
The government recommends that young people spend at least one hour a day getting outdoors and active; this campaign is a great incentive for young people meet this target. The message for young people is:
- get outdoors!
- post stories, images and video on kidsoutdoors.com
- ask them to talk to their friends about the campaign
KidsOutdoors: benefiting Scouting
Our campaign will help generate more interest, support and engagement with outdoor organisations like The Scout Association.
Ultimately, this will mean more support for your Section or Group both in terms of resources and adult volunteers.
- Take a look at kidsoutdoors.com; you'll find ideas for activities as well as campaign updates and news.
- Encourage young people to get outdoors, then submit their videos, blogs and photos at kidsoutdoors.com.
- Talk to other Leaders, your Group Scout Leader, District or County Commissioner about how you can use KidsOutdoors locally. Perhaps you could run a KidsOutdoors activity taster event for young people and adults who are not yet involved in Scouting? Maybe you are planning an event anyway?
