Sunny outlook for Scout forcasters
When Shawn Wakefield and Julia Maxfield, Assistant Scout Leaders with 28th Doncaster Scout Group, wanted their Scouts to do the Meteorologist Activity Badge, they decided to call in the experts. Here’s their story:
‘Our Troop is currently working towards achieving their Meteorologist Activity Badge, and as a treat we thought we'd try to arrange a meeting with the local ITV studios weather forecaster.
‘This was achieved on 13 February when we spent the morning exploring the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. After lunch we travelled the short distance to the ITV Studios, where upon our arrival we were met by forecaster Jon Mitchell.
‘We were then shown up to the board room where Jon explained about the weather, formation of clouds, fronts etc. Jon then had a surprise for us and whisked us off to the gallery where we watch the local news been broadcast live on the lunchtime slot.
‘After the newsreader had finished, we were then shown into the studio, where Jon showed us all his technology and finally we had our photo taken with Jon Mitchell on the set of Calendar, our local regional news programme.
‘A good but tiring day was had by all. Hopefully we'll now have 20 meteorologist badges in the near future. If they succeed, we're hoping to get Jon down to our headquarters to present the badges to the young members.'
