Scouts: Picture a better place to win a games console
Do you work with young people aged 14 – 16 who care about the environment and the community they live in? If so, they could be in with a chance to win one of 10 Nintendo DS consoles by entering an exciting new competition.
picture:whatif? is a competition to get young people to take a closer look at their own community – quite simply, picture what their community would be like if they could make a difference.
To enter, get them to take a video or a picture of something in their community they are proud of, or something they would like to see changed and upload it on to the website www.askwhatif.co.uk.
Then they can get their families and friends to vote for their entries. The 10 videos or pictures with the most votes will win a Nintendo DS and a copy of the best selling game Sim City. The first 100 entrants will also receive a £10 HMV voucher!
Your video or picture might be of a new skate park or recycling plant or it might be of something you’d like to change such as boarded up shops, traffic jams or housing estates with no facilities. Scouts can take part as a group or individually – and you can be as creative as you like!
TV presenter Davina McCall is supporting the competition. She said: ‘It's really important that we all take responsibility for the state of our communities. picture:whatif? is a great way of encouraging young people to take notice of their surroundings and allows their opinions to be heard.’
‘The competition is fun and really easy to enter. For the teenagers who take part, it could lead to a new passion for improving their communities not only for themselves but for future generations.’
The ask:whatif? website gives young people information on careers and opportunities in sustainable communities. There are increasingly lower numbers of people choosing careers in this area and as a result, our communities may suffer.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday 25 March 2008 - To be in with a chance to win one of these fantastic prizes, get snapping now!
