Scouting honed rock star’s talents
Legendary Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards has credited his time as a Scout with nurturing his leadership skills.
In an interview with Esquire magazine, the guitarist told of how he quickly moved up in the organisation and insisted that the experience honed his ability to guide others.
He said: ‘I got to be Patrol Leader within six weeks - I just shot to the top. That was the first time I realised I might have that (leadership) possibility. I'm like, “Hey, I'm just going to duck and dive.”
‘Once I had a bunch of guys together, it doesn't matter if it was the Scouts or a band, I could see my way clear to pull all their various talents together.’
With songwriting partner and Rolling Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger, Richards has written and recorded hundreds of songs, fourteen of which 'Rolling Stone' magazine lists among the ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’.
