Young Leader to take on mini wheelchair marathon
A Young Leader from Bounds Green, Greater London North, is all set to race in this weekend’s adidas Mini Wheelchair Marathon.
Stephen, 15, will take on the three-mile Adidas Mini Wheelchair Marathon this Sunday. The Young Leader with the 15th Wood Green Scout Group is raising money for Haringey Scout Park.
The course starts at Tower Bridge and follows roughly the same route as the last three miles of the London Marathon.
Stephen's dad Martin, 49, has been helping him train. He said: "This is the first one he's ever done."
Stephen has spina bifida and has always used a wheelchair. It was only recently that he first sat in a racing wheelchair, but that was enough to give him the marathon bug. Over the last eight weeks he has been rigorously training ahead of Sunday’s event.
The rules state that Stephen must complete the marathon course in under 60 minutes. With a current time of 34 minutes over 2.6 miles his father proudly says, 'we know we can do it'.
