Can your Scout movie-makers make the hills come alive?

Mountain movie competitionGet your Scouts to upload their homemade mountain movies and they could win rucksacks, an airing at a film festival and even a paid assignment to Everest Base Camp!

Using a camcorder, digital camera or even mobile phone, this competition aims to get the YouTube generation to make the hills come alive on film. Are your Scouts up for the challenge?

The idea

The rise of video-sharing websites and cheap digital technology has lowered the barriers to broadcasting to next to nothing, and few things look better on film than the great outdoors. The Homemade Mountain Movie Awards are here to celebrate the rise of the amateur outdoor film-maker, and promote mountain sports on video. They are keen for Scouts of all ages to take part – especially as they could win great prizes!

The competition

The organisers are looking for walkers and climbers who capture moving images in the spirit of fun, experimentation and the sheer pleasure of sharing a day on the hill.

Entry is via the Live For The Outdoors site and the only conditions are that films must be three minutes or less, shot on or about the mountains, and contain all-original work. Professional film-makers are not permitted to enter.

The prizes

All videos will be showcased on www.LFTO.com.

  • Movie competitionThe best videos of each week will each receive an expert critique.

  • The best video of each month will win a new Osprey Talon rucksack.

  • The best videos of the competition overall will be screened during the 2008 Kendal Mountain Film Festival, where the grand prize winner will also be announced.

  • The grand prize winner, announced at the Festival, will win all-expenses-paid trip for two to Everest Base Camp, including a paid commission for a video of their trip.
