Scout Group is outdoor bound after win
One Scout Group is preparing for camp after winning a prize in a very special Centenary competition. The Dawdon 2nd Seaham Scout Group, in County Durham, won five large tents, a dining shelter and a marquee.
Wining this competition means up to 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can go camping together. Scout Leader Elizabeth Armes said: ‘Everyone is thrilled to bits. It means we can now feed all of the young people in one sitting. This is going to make a big difference. They do really deserve this.’
As part of last year’s Cententary of Scouting celebrations, The Scout Association asked tent manufacturer BCT Outdoors to help reproduce the original Baden-Powell camp on Brownsea Island. This replica camp comprised of six bell tents, a marquee and a dining shelter.
After the replica camp, Scouting magazine launched a competition to find the most deserving Scout Group, in order to award them the tents.
It was judged by former Blue Peter presenter and Chief Scout Peter Duncan who, after carefully considering all the entries, decided that Dawdon 2nd Seaham Scout Group should receive the special prize
The equipment was presented to the Group by BCT Outdoors. Company spokesman Pat Hammond said: ‘There were a lot of children and parents there. It was brilliant.’
Dawdon 2nd Seaham Scout Group received five of the six bell tents, as the sixth tent has been shipped to America to go on permanent display at the Boy Scouts of America Museum in California.
