Recruitment: a fresh approach
Leaflets and posters
Overview:
One of the easiest and most effective ways of generating local awareness about Scouting is by displaying posters and handing out leaflets. You can buy promotional material from the Information Centre or if you feel creative, you could make your own. It should be remembered that posters and leaflets alone, however, will not be a very effective method of recruiting. So don’t rely just on these to get you new Leaders!
Top tips:
- Remember to add contact details (and a website, if you have one) to your posters and leaflets. There is no point trying to generate awareness and interest if people then don’t know how to get involved!
- Think carefully about where you are going to put your posters and leaflets. You want to make sure that as many people see them as possible, preferably where people can stop and have a closer look.
Case studies:
33rd Oxford Kidlington
The 33rd Oxford Kidlington made arrangements with the two local bus companies that serve the village. The bus companies allowed them to place a poster on the relevant buses, advertising local Scouting. The Group also managed to get the scheme promoted in the local press, and two new leaders were recruited through this method.
