Recruitment: a fresh approach
Presentations to staff
Overview:
Giving a presentation is a good way of giving people all the information you want to give them, whilst also being able to answer any questions they might have. You could do presentations to staff at lunchtimes, making them aware of the opportunities available to them in Scouting. Some companies may even allow you some time during work hours to talk to staff about volunteering. So be sure to make good use of the opportunity!
Top tips:
- Think carefully about what it is you want to tell people. Are there specific opportunities in your Section? Is there a camp coming up that could be used to give people a taster of Scouting? Whatever the message you are trying to get across, make sure it is tailored to your audience.
- Have a think about the types of questions that people might ask? For example, ‘Do I have to commit myself to helping out every week?’ or ‘Are there any tasks that can be done from home instead of at a weekly meeting?’ By thinking about possible questions in advance, you will be better prepared for them when they arise.
- Be sure to familiarise yourself with any company policies about time off for volunteering as this could be a huge selling point.
- Choose the right person to deliver the presentation. They should be enthusiastic and approachable, and should be ready to answer questions.
