As well as being responsible for air and land quality and managing waste and floods, the Environment Agency helps to protect and improve all inland freshwater, estuarine and coastal environments in England and Wales for fish and other wildlife.

We do this by improving water quality and ensuring that there is enough water in our rivers, and by protecting habitats for wildlife by making sure the activities of man do not damage where they live. Sometimes we can improve fish habitats by making physical changes to rivers and lakes. For example we did this recently at Gilwell Park, the home of Scouting, by enlarging and improving the Bomb Hole pond for fish and fishing.

Did you know that over 4 million people in England and Wales go fishing, making it one of the most popular activities in the country? Going fishing is easy and a lot of fun, especially when you take a friend.Quite often people don’t know how or where to fish, but the Scout Angler Badge is a great way to learn the skill and understand what to do, so you can enjoy the experience every time you go fishing.

I strongly recommend that you tackle the challenge and get the Angler Badge. I promise – as I have, you will enjoy fishing for the rest of your life!
